April 4, 2008 For the first time this year, the entire UW track team will leave campus to split competition in Stanford, Calif., and Eugene, Ore. The Huskies will send three 10,000-meter runners to the Stanford Invitational, while the rest of the team is set to compete in Oregon at the Pepsi Invitational in Oregon. “It’s a great team-building experience for us,” assistant track coach Jimmy Bean said of the Pepsi Invitational. “It's one of the [few] opportunities for us this year to get a full team experience.” The Pepsi Invitational will be a team-scoring exhibition meet in which scores are tallied using the international scoring system. The meet will feature the track teams from Washington, the University of Oregon, the University of Minnesota and Penn State. Back in action will be five-time All American senior jumper Norris Frederick, who is competing in his first meet since the NCAA indoor championships. “The long jump for Norris Frederick will be phenomenal, he’s PR’d (gotten a personal record) every time he’s gone [outdoors],” Bean said.
